ET Soccer: Longview boys roll over Marshall, more

BOYS LOBO INVITATIONAL

LONGVIEW 6, MARSHALL 0: Jesus Galvan scored twice on short goals, while Rudy Guiterrez had two assists and a goal, leading the Longview Lobos to a 6-0 triumph over the Marshall Mavericks here Thursday night at Lobo Stadium in first round play of the Lobo Invitational.

Galvan netted his points to start both the first and second halves. Jonathan Ontiveros assisted Daniel Paeza for a 2-0 halftime advantage.

After Galvan made it 3-0 early in the second half, Guiterrez got in on the act with a goal on a feed from William Langston and 4-0 lead.

Ontiveros drove home the fifth Lobo point on a Alex Sarmiento assist. William Sherman rounded out the scoring with the aid of Carter Sorrels.

Lobo sophomore goal-keeper Raul Torres notched his fifth clean sheet in six contests.

Longview (3-1-2) meets Jacksonville at 5:15 this afternoon.

Other first round varsity results included Forney and Kilgore playing to a 0-0 draw, while Horn and Jacksonville also tied 4-4.

John Tyler beat Lufkin, 2-1. Henderson blanked New Summerfield, 1-0, Lindale topped Texas High, 3-0 and Tyler Lee shut out Hallsville, 2-0.

In JV action, Kilgore defeated Marshall, 2-0, Jacksonville edged Forney, 1-0, Longview rolled Lindale, 5-0 and Horn slipped past John Tyler, 1-0.

TATUM INVITATIONAL

TATUM TAKES TWO: TATUM — Goals Marco Vazquez, Landon Richardson, Rey Luna , and Marcus Crockett led the Tatum Eagles to a 4-0 whitewash of the Atlanta Rabbits here Thursday in first round play at the Tatum Invitational.

Erik Gonzalez provided a pair of assists in the opener. In the second game, the Eagles bested Hudson on penalty kicks.

It was a rematch of last years championship game. Hudson would score late in the first half with the Eagles countering early in the second half with a goal from Vazquez.

Rodolfo Barrera netted the winning PK to give the Eagles their second victory of the night.

Tatum is back in action this morning against Diboll at 11 am.

In other opening round play, Spring Hill defeated Mineola , 3-1 ; Grace Community shut out Diboll, 1-0, Carthage handed Hudson a 2-1 setback; Mineola was a 3-0 winner on Grace Community; Spring Hill blanked Diboll, 2-0 and Carthage defeated Atlanta, 5-2.

GIRLS LUFKIN SHOWCASE

LONGVIEW 3, HOUSTON LAMAR 0: LUFKIN — Diana Godoy found the back of the net twice as the Longview Lady Lobos improved to 2-0 on the young season with a 3-0 shutout of Houston Lamar at the Lufkin Showcase on Thursday.

Inclement weather forced the games to be reduced to 30-minute halves and Godoy took a crossing pass from Mary Claire Henderson at 24:54 for a quick 1-0 lead.

Celeste Nunez drilled one from about 18 yards out at 15:17 on a nice assist from Anna Ward and a 2-0 advantage.

Godoy slipped in another cross from Ana Aguilar with 10:22 left to play to complete the scoring. Lady Lobo goalkeeper Mallory Burgess got credit for the shutout.

Longview plays host Lufkin at 5 p.m. today.

HALLSVILLE

HALLSVILLE 7, LINDALE 0: HALLSVILLE — Peyton Montgomery and Evan Hampton each netted two goals as the Hallsville Ladycats cruised to a 7-0 win over Lindale here Thursday in the Hallsville Tournament.

Kylee Battles, Maddie Floyd, and Megan Watts all added goals of their own. Hampton passed out a couple assists and Montgomery added another.
