ET Basketball: Kilgore College women rally to claim 71-67 win over Bossier Parish

KILGORE COLLEGE 71, BOSSIER PARISH 67: BOSSIER CITY, La. — Kilgore College's Jade Thurmon made two key layups in the final minute of the game — along with a clutch free throw by Alicia Mardis — to put KC up by four with nine seconds left, and the Lady Rangers rallied for a 71-67 Region XIV Conference win over Bossier Parish Community College.
KC struggled in the first half, going into intermission down five points, but rallied with the help of nine points and five key rebounds in the second half by Mardis.
Thurmon ended up with 24 points (16 in the second half), earning a double-double with 13 rebounds. Richelle Velez was also in double figures for KC with 12 points. Velez was 4-of-7 from beyond the three-point line.
KC's Hennesy Handy and Alexus Moore came off the bench, each scoring six points. Tyra Cormier and Paula Esteban each scored five points for KC. Cormier also had five rebounds.
With the win, KC improves to 11-4 overall and 5-1 in Region XIV play. With TVCC losing on Wednesday to Panola, 70-63, KC now sits in first place in the conference heading into a 2 p.m. home game on Saturday at Masters Gymnasium.
The KC men earned a 73-64 win over Coastal Bend on Wednesday, the Ranger's second win in a row and third in four games since the holiday break.
Kilgore (11-4, 3-3) will host Lamar State-Port Arthur at 4 p.m. on Saturday.
