TSWA Class 6A All-State Football: Two Longview Lobos named to first team

Longview's run to the state semifinals produced more postseason awards on Saturday with the release of the 67th annual Texas Sports Writers Association All-State Football Team for 2017.
The Lobos had two first-team selections in tight end Jaylin Brown and defensive back Jalen Carr to go along with third-team pick Jephaniah Lister in the secondary and honorable-mention selections Keilyn Williams at running back, Chris Kessler at kicker, A'Darius Carter at all-purpose and Jadarrion Blakemore on the defensive line.
Voting was conducted by TSWA members based on nominations from coaches and media members from around the state.
Brown caught 31 passes for 638 yards and 13 touchdowns and graded out at 90 percent as a blocker with 73 knockdowns.
Carr finished the year with 70 tackles, 10 interceptions, five passes broken up, three tackles for loss, three blocked kicks and a sack.
Williams carried 192 times for 1,253 yards and 17 touchdowns, caught 13 passes for 174 yards and threw a 28-yard touchdown pass.
Kessler was 63 of 66 on extra point attempts and 10 of 15 on field goals with a long of 47 yards to go along with 28 touchbacks on kickoffs.
Carter caught 31 passes for 619 yards and eight touchdowns, rushed for 150 yards and 12 scores and completed 6 of 11 passes for 27 yards.
Blakemore recorded 78 tackles, eight sacks, 20 tackles for loss, three fumble recoveries and three passes defended.
Waco Midway quarterback Tanner Mordecai (offense) and Cy-Fair linebacker Patrick Atkinson (defense) earned Player of the Year honors.
Mordecai passed for 3,989 yards with 53 touchdowns and 10 interceptions to go along with 1,131 rushing yards and 23 scores.
Atkinson recorded 149 tackles, 15.5 sacks and 23 tackles for loss.
Cy-Fair's Ed Pustejovky earned Coach of the Year accolades.
