Outdoors Notes: Clay shoot set Oct. 7, more

CLAY SHOOT: The Annual Ace in the Hole Sporting Clay Shoot benefiting the Pine Tree Golf Program, is set for 8 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 7, at Prairie Creek Sporting Clays.

Teams and individual shooters are welcome. Breakfast, lunch and door prizes provided and there will be a silent auction. Sponsorships are also available.

HUNTER SAFETY: Two Texas Hunter Safety Field Courses are set for September at Top Shot (Sept. 23, 9:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m.) and the East Texas Rifle and Pistol Club (Sept. 30, 9 a.m.-1 p.m.).

The courses are open to all who need to complete their requirements for hunter safety. Participants must register for the courses online at the TPWD website in the Hunter Education section.

The first part of the field course is free and online at the TPWD website under Hunter Safety enhanced course. The field course is $15 check or cash.

Those under 17 attending the courses must have consent from an adult and all must have proof of completion of the online portion.

Upon successful completion of the field course, a Hunter Safety card may be downloaded from the same TPWD website.

KILGORE BASS ANGLERS: The Kilgore Bass Anglers meet the first Monday of each month at The Back Porch in Kilgore.

The group fishes one tournament a month. Anglers have the option of fishing Saturday or Sunday (through October).

Tournaments use a team format, but anglers can fish alone for the full team price of $50. The next tournament will be held at Lake O' the Pines.

SPORTSMAN BASS CLUB: The Sportsman Bass Club is welcoming new members for team or individual fishing. The group fishes the third full weekend of each month on area lakes.

Meetings are the Thursday night of the tournament weekend at 6:30 p.m. at Trinity United Methodist Church, 3470 Gilmer Road (at Hawkins Parkway) in Longview.
