Two-Minute Drill: Clay shoot set Oct. 7, more

CLAY SHOOT: The Annual Ace in the Hole Sporting Clay Shoot benefiting the Pine Tree golf program, is set for 8 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 7, at Prairie Creek Sporting Clays.

Teams and individual shooters are welcome. Breakfast, lunch and door prizes are provided and there will be a silent auction. Sponsorships are also available.

LETU CHARITY SOFTBALL: The LeTourneau University Celebrity Softball Games are scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 28, at Conrad-Vernon Field on the LETU campus.

Three celebrity softball games will be played throughout the day, starting with local doctors squaring off against local lawyers at noon.

At 2 p.m., Christus Good Shepherd Medical Center will play against Longview Regional Medical Center in the "Battle" of local hospitals, with a home-run derby to immediately follow.

The premiere matchup of the day will take place at 4 p.m. as the Longview Police Department goes up against their rival Longview Firefighters in game three.

Ticket prices are $5 for adults and $3 for children with one ticket being good for admission for the entire day. All proceeds from the event will go to the LeTourneau University Athletic Department, which will directly benefit LETU student-athletes.

GOLF BENEFIT: The Donald Knight Memorial Golf Tournament is set for Monday, Oct. 23, at Wood Hollow Golf Course in Longview.

The 10th annual event benefits the East Texas Symphonic Band scholarships and concerts.

The four-person scramble will begin with a shotgun start at 1 p.m.

ADULT BASKETBALL: Registration deadline for Longview Parks and Recreation Department Adult Basketball ($360) is Oct. 20. Late deadline ($385) is Nov. 10.

Leagues offered are Men, Men's Industrial and Men's Church.

Play begins on Monday, Nov. 27, with a break from Dec. 18-Jan. 5.

Practice gyms will be available ($30 per hour for full court.)

YOUTH BASKETBALL: Registration deadline for Longview Parks and Recreation Department Youth Basketball ($70) is Nov. 4. Wait list deadline ($80) is Dec. 1.

Coaching applications must be turned in by Nov. 4, and Dec. 1 is the final day to add a player. The season will begin on Jan. 6.

BENEFIT TOURNAMENT: A golf tournament to benefit the Longview Lobo baseball team is set for Oct. 14 at Wood Hollow Golf Course in Longview.

The second annual event will begin at 1 p.m. with a shotgun start. Registration and a hamburger lunch for the golfers begins at noon at the course.

Cost for the lunch, golf cart and green fees is $75 per person or $300 per team (four-man teams).

Raffle prizes and prizes for closest to the hole, longest putt and longest drive are also scheduled.

FIRST TEE REGISTRATION: Registration for the First Tee of the Piney Woods has begun online at

Classes will be held at the Alpine Target Golf Center in Longview and also at Oaklawn Golf Course in Marshall. Sessions last six weeks and cost is $75 per participant and $50 for Pee Wee participants.

There is a $10 discount for additional siblings.

Class at Alpine Target Golf Center run through Oct. 14. Classes are for Pee Wees (ages 5-6), beginners (6-17) and advanced (11-17) for girls and boys.

Classes and times are:

PLAYer Class (boys and girls 6-12), 9-11 a.m.; Par Class (boys and girls 6-12, 9-11 a.m.; Pee Wee (boys and girls 5-6), 11 a.m.-noon; Girls Golf (6-17), noon- 2 p.m.; Advanced (boys and girls 11-17), 2:30-4:30 p.m.; Teenager Class (boys and girls 13-17), 2:30-4:30 p.m.

Classes in Marshall will be held on Monday evenings from 5-7 p.m. through Oct. 16. Classes will be for PLAYer and Par (boys and girls ages 6-17).
