ET Volleyball Notebook: Youngblood paces Gary in big wins, more
Gary closed non-district play with a win over Waskom and opened league action with a sweep of San Augustine.
Senior outside hitter Leann Youngblood came up big in both matches, and for her efforts she has been named ETvarsity.com Player of the Week for games played Sept. 4-9.
Youngblood opened the week with 24 kills, 29 digs and six aces against Waskom on Tuesday. She came back with 16 kills, 15 digs and eight aces against San Augustine.
In other outstanding performances from around East Texas last week (nominated by coaches):
Longview's Kennedy Eynon finished the week with 26 kills, 24 assists, two blocks, two aces and eight digs. Teammate Destiny McAfee recorded 18 kills, two aces and seven digs, and Morgan Vance added 41 assists and three aces.
White Oak's Madison Sigmon recorded 25 kills in two matches. Teammate Brooklyn Noll had 32 digs, three aces and two kills, and Kyla Weeks handed out 59 assists to go along with 18 digs and nine kills.
Beckville's Riley Seegers had 21 kills, 11 digs, five blocks and two aces for the top-ranked Ladycats.
Carlisle's Aubrey Hart helped the Lady Indians notch sweeps of Kilgore and Leverett's Chapel. She recorded 26 kills, nine blocks and two aces in the two matches.
THE WEEK AHEAD
Longview plays host to Rockwall tonight in an 11-6A contest at Forest Park Middle School. Pine Tree (vs. Greenville) and Marshall (vs. Mount Pleasant) are home for District 16-5A battles, and Spring Hill plays host to Canton in a non-district clash.
Carthage visits Gilmer in another non-district battle, while the District 16-3A slate has White Oak visiting Elysian Fields, Beckville at Jerrerson, Waskom at Ore City and New Diana at Union Grove.
