Pine Tree's Sparkman named top newcomer in 16-5A

Pine Tree freshman JJ Sparkman was selected Newcomer of the Year by league coaches, while Mount Pleasant dominated the postseason accolades in voting for the District 16-5A All-District Basketball Team for 2016-17.

Mount Pleasant's James Moore earned MVP honors, while Dorian Glinton shared Offensive MVP with Texas High's Quan Hampton.

Sulphur Spring's Victor Iwuakor garnered Defensive MVP and Mount Pleasant's Joey Chism was named the loop's Coach of the Year.

Voting was conducted by the district's coaches.


Marshall: Kris Dunn and Corteze Hurd; Mount Pleasant: Josh McGill, Kevin Savage and Buddy McGill; Sulphur Springs: Keaston Willis and Ke'Ontae Dunn; Pine Tree: Eric Hawkins; Texas High: Tevailance Hunt; Hallsville: Blaine Parker and Kameron Fitzpatrick.


Pine Tree: Nick Noll, Kenny Jackson and Trey Williams; Hallsville: Brendarian Dawson; Marshall: Carrington Love; Texas High: Curtis Camp and Lavon Brown; Mount Pleasant: Holden Davis; Sulphur Springs: Michael Jefferson and Dane Rutherford; Greenville: Cadamion Hale.
