Area lifters set for girls' state meet

Twenty-one of the area's strongest young ladies, including six from Gilmer's regional championship team, will begin their quests today to bring home gold as the Texas High School Women's Powerlifting Association State Meet opens.
Competition begins for 4A-5A lifters at 8 a.m. today, with 1A-2A-3A and 6A lifters competing on Saturday.
The event will be held at the Estraco Events Center in Waco.
Joining the lifters from Gilmer as state qualifiers are four athletes from Longview, two each from Pine Tree and Henderson and one from Hallsville, Mount Pleasant, Tatum, Pittsburg, White Oak, Daingerfield and Union Grove.
Qualifying athletes, with their schools, weight divisions and total qualifying weights are:
Longview: Tyetiana Rugley, 123 pounds, 615 total; Carrie Gilliland, 148 pounds, 635 total; Brittney Ferguson, 148 pounds, 555 total; Nikki Bell, 181 pounds, 795 total
Pine Tree: Norma Ortega, 105 pounds, first, 535 total; Callie Lightfoot, 198 pounds, 790 total
Hallsville: Haley Haddock, 114 pounds, first, 600 total.
Mount Pleasant: Molli Dorsey, 259 pounds, 750 total.
