ET Softball Roundup: Harmony edges Spring Hill, more

HARMONY 1, SPRING HILL 0: HARMONY — Mikaelyn Settles doubled to lead off the bottom of the eighth, moving to third on a sacrifice and scoring the game-winner on a single as Harmony earned a 1-0 win over Spring Hill in non-district play.

Settles also earned the pitching win for Harmony, striking out 11, walking one and allowing just one hit — a single by Jayla Landrum.

She was moved to third on a bunt by Dacy Dawson, and Hope Howard delivered the game-winning single.

Kaylin McWhorter took the loss for the Lady Panthers. She struck out two, walked one and allowed just one earned run on six hits in 7.2 innings.

GILMER 5, MARSHALL 3: MARSHALL — Jade Ramthun drove in two runs, Madeline Barber struck out 10 and the Gilmer Lady Buckeyes held on for a 5-3 win over the Marshall Lady Mavs.

Barber walked two and did not allow an earned run in five innings. Jewel Rash fanned three and walked one in two frames.

Madison McCurry and Ramthun both doubled, and McCurry finished with two hits and an RBI. Thaelyn Reel also drove in a run.

Gabby Moore had the lone hit for Marshall in the loss.

CARTHAGE 9, BULLARD 2: BULLARD — Kayman Courtney belted out three hits and drove in three runs from the leadoff spot, and the Carthage Lady Bulldogs rolled to a 9-2 win over Bullard.

Chelcie Pierce doubled, and Kali Cuff singled twice and drove in two runs for Carthage, which led 1-0 before scoring four in the fourth and three in the fifth to take control. Kimberlyn Worsham also drove in a run for the Lady Bulldogs.

Taylor Wills struck out seven and walked two, giving up no runs on three hits in five innings.

CENTRAL 6, TATUM 5: TATUM — Central pushed across two runs in the top of the seventh inning to rally for a 6-5 win over the Tatum Lady Eagles.

For Tatum in the loss, Adriana Bradley homered and drove in two runs. Essence Allen singled twice, and Raynee Edgmon and Lela Burney drove in runs.

Tatum drops to 7-6 with the loss.

WHITE OAK 9, JEFFERSON 0: WHITE OAK — Jessica Patak tossed a two-hit shutout at Jefferson, striking out 15 and walking one, and the White Oak Ladynecks opened District 16-3A play with a 9-0 win.

Patak had two hits, and Kara Carter and Maci Teague drove in two runs apiece for White Oak, which also got RBIs from Samantha McGrew and Alexis Herrera.

Carley Chambers had both hits for Jefferson. Hannah Welch took the loss. She fanned four and walked three in six innings.

ELYSIAN FIELDS 10, BECKVILLE 6: BECKVILLE — Elysian Fields pushed across five runs in the top of the fifth to break open a close game en route to a 10-6 District 16-3A win over Beckville.

Sarah Findley homered twice and drove in three runs for Elysian Fields. Holly Holden doubled and drove in two runs, and Kayla Evans added two hits. Bri Chandler added a couple of RBIs, and Shayla Mathews plated one while also earning the pitching win. Mathews struck out eight and walked one in seven innings.

For Beckville in the loss, Ally LaGrone homered and singled, Kelby Maines had three hits and Shelley Pierce, Madi LaGrone and Bailey Jones all collected two hits. Pierce, Kimberly Baker, Madi LaGrone and Maines all doubled.

Ally LaGrone shouldered the pitching loss.

HARLETON 12, ORE CITY 1: ORE CITY — Harleton broke open a close game with a nine-run seventh inning, and the Lady Wildcats earned a 12-1 win over Ore City in the District 16-3A opener for both teams.

Hailey Pyland, Brooke Weaver and Dana Cooner all drove in two runs for Harleton. Pyland had three hits, and Aubrey Nixon, Weaver, Cooner and Tyler Mobley collected two hits apiece.

Marlie DeMoney (4-0) earned the pitching win. She struck out three and did not walk a batter. Morgan Clawson suffered the loss for Ore City.

Harleton (6-3) will participate in the Grandview Tournament this weekend, opening with games Thursday against Little River Academy at 3 p.m. and Bonham at 7 p.m.

NEW DIANA 4, WASKOM 0: WASKOM — Heather Zook struck out 16 with no walks, tossing a three-hit shutout at Waskom in a 4-0 New Diana win in the District 16-3A opener for both teams.

Haley Johnson tripled and drove in two runs, Brooklynn Manes singled and doubled and Kloe Meador had two hits and a couple of RBIs to back the strong pitching of Zook.

Karly Meshell and Kylie Easterling added hits for the Lady Eagles.

GLADEWATER 8, UNION GROVE 2: GLADEWATER — Lily Cahal tripled, singled and drove in a run, and Murphy Williams earned the pitching win with a complete-game performance as Gladewater notched an 8-2 win over Union Grove.

Williams, who struck out 11 and walked two, also doubled, singled and drove in a run. Cylie Wragg banged out four hits and scored three times from the leadoff spot for the Lady Bears.

Lizzie Bible had two hits for Union Grove, and Kasi Jones and Bailey Wilder drove in runs.

Maddie Clowers took the pitching loss. She struck out three in one inning. Jones fanned two and walked one in five innings.

WEST RUSK 12, OVERTON 4: OVERTON — Makana Morton pitched a complete-game with 11 strikeouts, and helped herself at the plate with a double, single and two RBIs as West Rusk notched a 12-4 win against Overton.

Brooklyn Floyd and Sydney Martin both homered and drove in two runs for the Lady Raiders. Morton also swiped a couple of bases.


HOOKS 12, DAINGERFIELD 2: HOOKS — The Hooks Lady Hornets opened District 14-3A play with a 12-2 win over Daingerfield.

Ashlyn Fomby singled in the top of the fifth to plate the only two runs for Daingerfield. Courtney Makepeace, Camryn Byrd and Makayla Robinson all singled, and Baylee Welch added a pair of singles for Daingerfield.

Byrd took the loss. She struck out one, walked five and surrendered eight hits.
