ET Volleyball Roundup: New Diana goes 2-1 in tourney, more

NEW DIANA GOES 2-1: WIMBERLY — Katie Easley racked up 28 kills over three matches as the New Diana Lady Eagles won two of three in the Wimberly Tournament on Friday.
Easley hammered home nine kills in ND's straight set, 25-19, 25-20 win over Lago Vista in the opener. Krista Russell added a half dozen kills and one block. Ali Leslie tacked on four, while Gabi Moore had three and Joelle Newton two.
Easley's 11 kills weren't enough in the Lady Eagles' three-set loss to Burnet, 25-18, 23-25, 19-25. Easley also had 11 digs, while Makayla Simmons handed out 21 assists to go along with 10 digs.
Russell tacked on eight kills, while Leslie and Moore each threw down seven.
The Lady Eagles regrouped and took a straight set, 25-21, 25-17 decision over Somerset in the third match. Easley's eight kills paved the way along with two blocks, four digs and an ace. Leslie was second with five kills. Simmons tallied 10 assists and six digs. Newton picked up nine digs and James added seven.
New Diana is back in action today against Edna with first serve at 9 a.m.
CARTHAGE WINS POOL PLAY: GARLAND — DeDe Pope and Matti Doffitt combined for 44 kills as the Carthage Lady Dawgs went 3-1 in first day play at the Garland Tournament.
Carthage downed McKinney North (27-25, 25-27, 25-17) and Garland (25-19, 25-11) in pool play and lost to Wiley (25-18, 25-17).
The Lady Dawgs emerged out of pool play and advanced to the championship bracket. Carthage rallied to take Mesquite Horn (18-25, 25-17, 25-13).
Pope's 23 kills led the way and Doffitt followed close with 21.
Courtney Edge totaled 41 digs, while Carson Robertson had 20 assists and 10 aces.
Carthage faces Wiley East today at 9 a.m.
HALLSVILLE SPLITS: GARLAND — The Hallsville Ladycats nabbed a thrilling three-set triumph over Wiley East and finished 2-1 in pool play action at the Garland Tournament. Hallsville prevailed in the opener, 25-23, 22-25, 28-26.
The Ladycats fell in their second match to Naaman, 19-25, 27-25, 19-25, but rebounded to defeat Ranchview in straight sets, 25-20, 25-20.
Moving out of pool play, Hallsville suffered a straight set defeat to Sulphur Springs, 22-25, 19-25.
Addison McDermott finished the day with 34 kills, 12 blocks, 35 digs and six aces. She also hit at a .328% clip.
Alia Horaney totaled 19 kills, while Alexis Simmons managed 50 digs. Ashley Jones wound up with 94 assists over the four matches.
RAINS RECORDS 1-2 DAY: GARLAND — After opening with a 25-10, 25-14 win over RL Turner, Rains fell to Mesquite, 23-25, 23-25 and to Sachse, 25-27, 14-25 in opening day play at the Garland Tournament.
McKenna Hildebrandt wound up with 14 kills, Shelbi Sheppard contributed 19 assists, while Elissa Elliott managed 31 digs over the three contests.
LADY MAVS MOVE ON: VAN — The Marshall Lady Mavs were able to recover from an opening match setback to qualify for gold bracket play at the Van Tournament.
Marshall fell in two sets to Paris, 13-25, 22-25. Gabby Moore had three kills and three assists, while Kiari Johnson totaled four blocks and Chole Buchanan added five digs.
In the second match with Gladewater, Elizabeth Palmer had nine digs, Cate Truelove added five assists and Johnson two blocks. Marshall prevailed in two, 25-18, 25-16.
Moore's five kills, five assists and two blocks paved the way to a 25-22, 25-16 sweep of Arp in the third match. Ry'An Sharpless finished with four kills, Johnson added two blocks and Truelove seven assists.
Rounding it out for Marshall, Buchanan picked up a half dozen digs and Maycee Griffin added seven.
The Lady Mavs face Bullard today at 9 a.m.
TATUM NABS FIRST WIN: TATUM — Madison Fite cranked out 11 kills and Ashton Brown followed with 10 as the Tatum Lady Eagles bested the Jacksonville Lady Indians in straight sets, 25-13, 25-11, 25-17 in a non-district match.
Essence Allen picked up 14 digs and Lela Burney added 11. Fite added to her kill collection with 22 assists and four aces from the service line.
Brown completed her afternoon of work with a game-high five blocks. Tatum moves to 1-1 on the young season.
LADY HAWKS CLIP CUMBERLAND: HAWKINS — Christian Harris had three kills and Lilly Long had two assists as the Hawkins Lady Hawks rolled past Cumberland, 25-15, 25-20, 2-25 in non-district action.

LADY EAGLES SPLIT TWO: LEVERETT'S CHAPEL — The Longview Christian Lady Eagles overcame a 1-0 set deficit to rally past Christian Heritage, 23-25, 25-20, 16-14 and later dropped a three-set verdict to Leverett's Chapel, 25-20, 12-25, 7-15 in the Leverett's Chapel Tournament.
Emily Thornton had 17 service winners and three aces in the opener. Sasha Conner came up with a team-best seven kills and four blocks, Jasmine Smith had a dozen assists, while Alex Clendening gathered six digs.
In the second match, Conner's eight service points led the way along with her six kills and four blocks. Smith was tops in assists again with 10 and Clendening managed five digs.
HUNTINGTON SWEEPS: GARY — The Huntington Lady Devils opened the Gary Tournament with a three-game sweep.
Center was the first victim in three, 23-25, 25-8, 25-4. The Lady Devils proceeded to sweep Timpson, 25-17, 25-17 and Harmony, 25-13, 25-18.
Chandlyr McGaughey led the way with 16 digs, four aces, nine kills and 18 assists. Shelby Wagner had 36 assists and four aces. Karly Williams finished with 10 digs and five aces.
Torie Comeaux tallied 23 kills, 11 digs, three aces and five blocks. Tatum Williams contributed 14 digs, three aces and was 19-of-19 serving. Chelsea Lewis totaled 11 kills, while Kerigan had nine.
