ET Volleyball: Tourney host Longview wins twice, more

LONGVIEW

LONGVIEW WINS 2: Host team Longview opened pool play with wins over Palestine (25-16, 25-13) and Pleasant Grove (25-17, 25-18) on Thursday at the Lady Lobo News's Volleyball Tournament.

Morgan Vance had 10 assists and an ace in the win over Palestine. Taisha Mackey added eight kills, Malaika Pencheon five kills, Destiny McAfee five kills, a block and four digs, Kennedy Eynon two kills, five assists, a block and an ace, and Manecia Darden five kills and three aces.

Against Pleasant Grove, Eynon had six kills, seven assists and a block, Pencheon six kills, a block and an ace, McAfee three kills and three blocks, Mackey three kills and a block, Brooke Goynes seven digs and Vance 12 assists and four aces.

Longview (4-0) will face Hooks at 9 a.m. in Gold Bracket play on Saturday. Other Gold Bracket openers have Lindale vs. Spring Hill at 8 a.m., Pine Tree vs. Pleasant Grove at 8 a.m. and Beckville vs. White Oak at 9 a.m.

In Silver Bracket action, it's Nacogodches vs. Longview's JV at 10 a.m. and Henderson vs. Palestine at 11 a.m.

PINE TREE WINS 2: Pine Tree opened pool play at the Longview Tournament with wins over Hooks (25-15, 25-18) and Henderson (25-13, 25-22).

Against Hooks, Pine Tree (3-0) got two kills and three blocks from Maizie Hart. Haley Morgan added six points, six digs, an ace and four receptions, Blair Shelton seven digs and nine receptions, Sarah Moore five points, five kills, four assists, two blocks, three digs and two receptions, Natalie Collins 12 points, seven assists, a dig and four aces, Sam Sommerfield four kills, a block and a reception, Emily Jones eight points, five kills, one block, four digs, two aces and a reception, Jordan Fuller two kills, four blocks, two digs and six aces and Harper Finley two kills, two blocks and two digs.

Fuller had eight kills, two blocks and an ace in the win over Henderson. Morgan chipped in with eight points, three assists, six digs and 10 receptions, Shelton 11 points, three aces and three receptions, Moore one point, three kills, eight assists, two blocks, four digs, one ace and one reception, Collins four points, four assists, one dig and two aces, Sommerfield three kills, one dig and one reception, Jones four kills, four digs and one ace and Finley three kills, one block and one dig.

BECKVILLE WINS 2: The Beckville Ladycats opened pool play in the Longview Tournament with wins over Spring Hill (25-12, 25-12) and Longview's JV (25-12, 25-10).

Against Spring Hill, Courtlyn Nail had two aces and seven digs, Kaylee Hull three digs, Riley Seegers three aces, 10 kills, a dig and a block, Kinley Pepper an ace, a kill, 21 assists and four digs, Baley McGuire two digs, Jordan Tondreau an aces, two kills, six digs and a block, Payton Jjones two kills and eight digs, Allison Baker one dig, Miranda Mize two kills and a block and Hannah Humphries four kills and a dig.

Nail had two aces and four digs in the win over Longview's JV as Beckville moved to 3-0 on the year. Hull chipped in with three aces and two digs, Seegers eight kills, an ace, two digs and a block, Pepper one aces, 25 assists and five digs, McGuire a dig, Tondreau five kills, two assists, six digs and a block, Jones seven kills and seven digs, Baker one kill, Mize two kills and Humphries four kills and a dig.

LEVERETT'S CHAPEL

ETCS WINS 3: East Texas Christian School notched a pair of wins in pool play at the Leverett's Chapel Tournament, defeating Trinity School of Texas (25-7, 25-23), Waskom (25-18, 26-24) and Union Hill (25-13, 25-19)

In the win over Trinity School, Isabella Hill finished with five aces, five kills and three digs. Jaden Parker added four aces and five assists, Micaiah Dixon seven kills, Destini Dixon six assists and Riley Park nine receptions.

Hill had eight kills and three blocks against Waskom. Parker added four aces, three digs and eight assists, Parks four digs and K.K. Dixon two digs and 11 receptions..

Hill led the way to victory over Union Hill with 12 kills. Dixon contributed a game-high nine assists.

GARY

UG GOES 1-2: The Union Grove Lady Lions took one of three matches Thursday at the Gary Volleyball Tournament.

After dropping a 25-15, 25-22 straight set decision to Sabine in the opener, the Lady Lions battled host Gary to a three set defeat, 20-25, 25-21, 27-25.

Shelbyville was a 25-18, 25-14 loser in the third match for Union Grove.

Haley Breazeale led the Lady Lions with nine kills, while Summer Grubbs added eight of her own. Breazeale also passed out a team-high 13 assists and Grubbs followed close with 10.

Mariana Gonzalez was tops in digs with 16. Grubbs managed 15 and Breazeale 11. Madiison Webb's seven blocks led the way and Grubbs served out a half dozen aces.

ORE CITY

LADY REBS SWEPT: The Troup Lady Tigers rolled to a straight set 25-18, 25-16, 25-17 sweep of the Ore City Lady Rebels here Thursday in a non-district match to open the 2017 volleyball season for both schools. Hannah Pendarvis had five blocks two kills an ace and an assist. Jade Draper 20 tallied assists and two digs. Madison Plasterer served three aces and added four digs, while Tori Pena had four aces, three kills and six digs. Brandee Gabaldon finished with four kills and Landri Ross added five digs.
