ET Softball Notebook: Harleton's Phillips, Overton's Blakeney take honors, more
Harleton's Randi Carol Phillips and Overton's Jaylin Blakeney earned ETvarsity.com/Best Preps top honors for their performances in games played March 27-April 1.
Phillips is the Pitcher of the Week after going 2-0 in a couple of District 16-3A outings. Blakeney is the Hitter of the Week after swinging a big bat in district victories over Union Grove and Big Sandy.
Phillips allowed one earned run while striking out 18 and walking four in 14 innings of work against Ore City (11-1) and White Oak (2-0).
Blakeney finished the week 5-for-7 with two home runs and eight RBIs in two games. She homered and drove in two runs against Big Sandy, and then went 3-for-4 wit ha home run, triple and single against Union Grove. Her home run against Union Grove was a walk-off grand slam.
In other outstanding performances from around East Texas (nominated by coaches):
Carthage's Taylor Wills fanned six and allowed two runs on six hits in seven innings.
Pittsburg's Kaycee Parker struck out 10 with no walks, allowing one earned run on five hits in a win over Liberty-Eylau.
New Diana's Heather Zook struck out 14, walked four and gave up one earned run in seven innings, and teammate Joelle Newton did not allow an earned run in six innings in her one outing of the week.
Marshall's Gabby Moore went 4-for-7 with an RBI in two games.
Carthage's Carson Robertson was 2-for-2 with a triple, a walk and a run scored in Carthage's only game of the week.
Pittsburg's Abby Hammonds homered and drove in two runs for the Lady Pirates.
New Diana's Kloe Meador was 3-for-5 with two home runs and five RBI in two games. Teammate Madi Brown finished 3-for-7 with a triple, home run and three RBIs, and Kylie Easterling went 2-for-5 with two RBIs.
Jefferson's Taylor Fuquay and Carly Chambers both had a couple of hits, with Chambers adding a double and driving in a run.
West Rusk's Sydnee Martin hit .625 for the week with a home run and five RBIs. Teammate Makana Morton homered, doubled twice, drove in five and swiped two bases. She also earned a pitching win. Maeghan Davis hit .625 with three RBIs and four runs scored, and Meredith Herron hit .500 with a triple and five runs scored.
Union Grove's Madelynn Lacaze went 3-for-7 with a home run, triple and four RBIs.
