JACKSONVILLE - The Kilgore College Rangers had their postseason cut short on Tuesday, dropping a 58-52 decision to 11th-seeded Coastal Bend at the Region XIV Conference Tournament.
Kilgore finishes the season with a record of 20-9.
The Rangers took a 46-45 lead with 4:40 left in the game, but Costal Bend's Tramonte Stewart and Taylor Johnston made two huge buckets that gave the Cougars a 50-46 lead with 50 seconds left in the game.
Both teams traded layups on the ensuing possessions, giving Coastal Bend a narrow 54-52 lead with 26 seconds left.
Kilgore post Shaq Keith missed a three-pointer that would've cut the lead to one, but he shot it long and Coastal Bend was able to control the rebound and make the remaining free throws to secure the upset victory over the Rangers.
The score at halftime was 23-23, and no player on either team scored in double-digits.
Kilgore, seeded sixth in the tournament, shot 39 percent from the field for the entire game, including a season-low 13 percent from beyond the three-point line.
Keith led the Rangers in scoring with 16 points, and he ripped down three rebounds.
Guard Jonathan Milligan had 10 points and dished out three assists.
Coastal Bend was led by Stewart with 19 points, including a perfect 3-for-3 from the three-point line. He also dished out seven assists.
