Longview's annual Iron Man got going Monday with the vertical jump and 40-yard dash.

On Tuesday, the Lobos hit the weight room and, in turn, the big boys put on a show.

2018 DL Jeffrey Jones highlighted the day with a school-record 500 pounds on the front squat.

With 'Grind and Gather' serving as the Lobos' offseason mantra, King said the Iron Man is off to a good start.

"That's what we talked about coming into this offseason that it's a group effort and we've got to grind together. That's what we've been doing during the offseason and athletic period. We've had a pretty good offseason, a long one and one we don't want to be this long again, and the kids have worked hard. Good leadership, tremendous effort and encouragement, all the things it takes. We've ween a lot of gains in strength and speed. Some kids in there had definitely put on some size."

Gather is a big word as King said 185 players freshman through juniors are participating in the offseason program. A large amount, 50-60, King said, are running track as well.

On Monday, Kevion Bush posted a 4.51 hand-timed 40 time, followed by Jkameron Riggins (4.59), Eric Timberlake (4.61), Kyeran Monroe (4.64), Chris Kessler (4.65), Chris Candler (4.66). Jessie Anderson posted a 4.72 and A'Darius Carter and Jordan Lawson clocked a 4.72.

The dead lift comes on Friday with Monday's lifts including back squat and clean. Full results will be posted once the competition concludes.

Spring football starts April 24 with the Green-White Game set for 5 p.m. on May 16.
