Insider: Lobos land two superlatives on 11-6A team

Longview senior cornerback Jalen Carr and sophomore quarterback Haynes King led Longview's selections on the 11-6A All-District Team.

Carr was named Co-Defensive Player of the Year and finished his senior season with 10 interceptions, five passes broken up, three blocked kicks, three tackles for loss, two sacks and 70 tackles for the state semifinalist Lobos.

King, who started the final 11 games for the Lobos, picked up Offensive Newcomer of the Year honors. King finished his first season as the Lobo quarterback 130-of-240 for 2,105 yards, 25 touchdowns and eight interceptions. He added 238 rushing yards with two touchdowns on 22 carries.

Mesquite Horn junior quarterback Jermaine Givens was named MVP while Rockwall junior quarterback Jacob Clark earned Offensive Player of the Year. Rockwall defensive lineman Korrey Barron shared defensive honors with Carr.

Mesquite Horn linebacker Kendrick Blackshire and John Tyler linebacker Kameron Mayfield shared Defensive Newcomer of the Year honors.

John Tyler's Michael Givens-Washington was named Special Teams Player of the Year and Mesquite Horn's Mike Overton was named Coach of the Year.
